When I saw that the weekly photo challenge was free spirit, I immediately thought of this photo.

My husband took this last fall.

It’s dusk and the sky was brilliant.

No fences, saddle, bridle or halter. What better way (in my opinion) to represent “free spirit” than an Appaloosa. With their rich Native American history…

Ok so I’m a little late on the weekly photo challenge.

But I just couldn’t bring myself to go into town.

So I thought I’d snap some photos of my own “gated” community.

Here we have a 3 apartment complex. Looks run down but very sturdy and cleaned daily.

One apartment comes with a security camera.

…that will cost ya extra each month.

We offer a large playground…

…and day care, at no extra charge.

Food court

The food court is open 24/7…

…as well as the bath house.

Vacancies

Here are a couple current vacancies. 1 bedroom on top and a spacious loft style w/central air, on the bottom.

This is my “urban”.

I submitted this to the dog shaming blog site but, thought I’d share it with you too.

She actually picks the smaller ones that fit in her mouth unnoticed…

…until I find her under the kitchen table with a mouth full!

I just love them.

I love their singing and chirping. It’s really pretty.

We’ve had a couple of batches of chicks out of 3 other established nests but this was a new one I discovered last week.

I’m amazed at how fast they grow.

Just a couple days before I took this photo they all looked liked Larry from the 3 Stooges.

The downy feathers on their little heads was a funny mess.

Larry

I wonder what they did with their little hats?

My husband took this photo on one of his many quests in photography.

I thought it represented the theme “merge” quite well.

Aired only once…

This was shared on Facebook today.

I’ve seen it numerous times.

…and I cry each time.

Only music and scenery convey the emotion in this message.

I try to keep most of my blog posts light and humorous, because I just don’t “get” the human race sometimes.

I don’t get the cruelty to others and animals.

I don’t get the senseless killings and deaths.

…or war

…because of greediness, uncertainty and ignorance.

I tried to think of how I could categorize this post as “growth”

Do we learn and grow from these incidents?

Do we become more paranoid?

I honestly think, all of the above.

My moment of growth came to me after my baby sister lost her battle to senseless cancer.

My 5 senses grew as well as my awareness.

Sight: I see and appreciate the colors around me.

Hearing: Birds, crickets, laughter…

Smell: Rain, flowers, my horses, fresh cut grass…

Touch: The feel of my hand over wheat in a field. Hold my hand…

Just a single touch can have an enormous stop in my tracks affect now.

Taste: Really tasting good (and bad) food, but appreciating that I don’t have to worry about my next meal, or if I have the ability to actually swallow.

awareness: The unsung heroes of our civilian, medical, military and law enforcement.

Daily awareness of my lost loved ones.

I’ve grown to notice that things roll of my back much easier now, and that life is to short to surround myself with negative or petty people.

Growth
